INMATE ESCAPES FOR THE SECOND TIME, JAIL UNDER SCRUTINY:At tangipahoa Parish Jail, about 60 miles north of New Orleans, 22-year-old Tra’Von Johnson managed to escape for the second time within a year.

A brief moment of an unlocked door and a flooded shower created the opportunity for him to slip out unnoticed.
His accomplice, Trevon Wallace, helped him over the fence before quickly returning inside.No one noticed the escape right away—no headcount or report was made until an anonymous tip alerted staff.
A manhunt ensued, and Johnson was caught a few miles away in Amite City.Johnson was awaiting trial for a 2022 home invasion that resulted in one death and injury to a child.
He’s now held at Angola, Louisiana’s largest prison, still awaiting trial.Four jail employees have been suspended, and with only one staff member watching 60 cameras, the sheriff admits the jail “still has a lot of work to do.”
